A Framework for Shaping your Professional Life…

The Plight of Martyrdom isn’t a Winning Strategy

Martyrdom isn’t a winning strategy. Often, successful leaders, especially women, feel the need to appear perfect, often sacrificing themselves to do so. Operating as a martyr, is defined as the psychological readiness to suffer and sacrifice one's life for an endeavor or cause.

The key is for executive-level managers (CEO,CFO,COO and CIO), who are in charge of ensuring that an organization's day-to-day operations are aligned with long-term strategies—is that they practice corporate repositioning and redirection. They are the key individuals in ensuring an organization's success, and must also allow their staff to pivot proactively.

If you find yourself on a path that isn’t in alignment with your vision, as well as the corporate values, it’s better to “course correct,” than to stay the course on a path that absolutely will not get you to a meaningful destination.

Many people stick to this mindset: 'It is better to stick what we know, even if it is uncomfortable. Part of the wisdom of redirection, is that if something isn’t working, you must learn when to refocus and go in another direction; then you’ll be on your way to better success. There is no honor in fighting a futile battle. Redirect your energies somewhere that will make a difference.
