A Framework for Shaping your Professional Life…

Hiring Strategies from How Jesus selected His Leaders

Have you considered that the scriptures (God’s wisdom), can offer insights into hiring the right employees?

The struggle to hire dependable, talented team members is a hurdle many entrepreneurs face—made even more difficult right now as the labor shortage continues. We suggest that in these challenging times, faith-driven corporations must turn to scriptural strategies and God’s wisdom.

Jesus Christ, a global leader, chose his team members (apostles) from all walks of life.

The variety was intentional. He chose people who would complement each other, offer different perspectives, and ultimately contribute to a well-rounded mission. The team was diverse but unified in purpose. He wasn't just picking any disciples just to have a unique corporate and global presence; He was selecting the men who would spread the Gospel (His Kingdom Mission), after He ascended to heaven.

This was no small hiring decision! By examining His choices, we can draw practical insights to help you build a team that's competent and aligned with your mission and values.

As a Christian business owner, consider expanding your hiring search beyond the usual candidate pools. A team of people with diverse backgrounds, skills, and experiences that is rich in perspective and more adaptable to challenges. Being open to people from different career paths can bring unexpected and invaluable skills to your team. However remember, the individuals you hire can make or break your business, affecting everything from company culture to the bottom line. That's why it's so important to get it right.

Here’s A Few Characteristics to Look for When Hiring

✅ Teachability and a Desire to Learn

Those who have an attitude of learning: are open to learning, observing, listening, and asking for help when needed
Those who are willing to unlearn and relearn.
Those who are able to implement what they learn, and putting what they’ve learned into practice.

Dedication

Those having a strong support for, or loyalty to, or being dedicated to you as leadership, the group, the cause.

Eager to Work and Follow Instructions

Those who are enthusiastic about starting the job and is committed to carefully following the directions they are given, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn by adhering to established procedures.

Deep Belief in the Mission

They believe in the mission themselves, and understand this in order to inspire others to follow.
Without a clear belief in the mission and strategy—staff, volunteers, and leaders, may work in entire departments that are isolated from the rest of the business (silos), which can lead to a weakened sense of purpose.

Courage and Boldness

Having employees who are willing to take risks and step outside of their comfort zone
Employees with the ability to face their  fears and do what is right, even when it is difficult
Employees who stand firm in their convictions, and make the tough decisions.

By studying how Jesus selected His first twelve leaders/apostles, we can learn valuable lessons about the qualities that make for an effective and dedicated team.
